Baby Shower Countdown: Stampin Up Papers and Embellishments

Had a super day yesterday - celebrating a Baby Shower for my youngest daughter.
We wanted to do something different so decided on a crafty theme and of course we had to use Stampin' Up! products (Why? Because I have oodles of it and it is the best on the market!)

The main "entertainment" was for each guest to decorate a block for the new baby, but many people just don't realize how creative they are so I decided to use one of my old teaching tricks that helps to unlock that hidden creativity.

After a welcome glass of champagne or juice and a good old "chin wag", I advised the girls plus my grandson who was excited to be attending his first baby shower, that I was going to unlock the Picasso in each of them. Here are some samples:

I prepared some outlines of baby shapes, then blind folded the guests 3 at a time (just so the others could have a good chuckle at what was being drawn) They were told to draw in the baby's  face features of eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair etc and as you can see some wonderful results. We later made these into very simple scrap pages to fit an 8 x 8 inch album.

Coordinating colours and patterns from the Designer Series Paper Stacks combined with buttons and punched shapes finished the art works. As all good artists do - the works were signed by the creators.

Next we went downstairs to the craft studio and amid lots of food, drink and hilarity some wonderful Baby Blocks were created.
SIL #2 took on the task of preparing and serving the food, and he did a brilliant job. Thanks Mark!

I'd prepared some basic cubes made from Stampin' Up! On Board Sheets that had been covered in paper and glue and then painted in 4 Acrylic Gloss coloured. We'd prepared some basic supplies and I gave the girls free reign over the studio so what they could find they could use.
I was blown away with the results from girls who said they didn't have a crafty bone in their bodies.
What do you think?

Chipboard shapes, punched shapes , buttons and bows: all found their way onto the surface.

Each person wrote one or a number of messages to the new mum - these were done in coordinating colours using the SU Markers

Basic colours were green, blue, lemon and purple.

Now I just have to work out a way to preserve these so bits don't fall off them. Of course they will not be given to a baby - too many hazards in the buttons and bows - not to mention the glitter, but the main idea was to have fun, and I'll document each persons creation next to their drawing in the scrap book.

This was a really fun and successful activity to do.

Hope you have enjoyed looking at it. Feel free to contact me if you'd like more information on the construction of the cubes (by the way they have buttons, beads etc in them to make different rattle sounds)

Until Next time

Stay Crafty,
