Stamping Techniques To Try - Blackboard Technique

Hello Technique friends! It's all about trying new techniques in this Blog hop and this month I too am trying a new technique - the Blackboard Technique. This can also be known as the Chalkboard Technique.

You'll find lots of creative ideas in the blog hop and I hope my version stimulates your creativity to try all different types of stamps.

I used a beautiful stamp set named Peaceful Place. You can find that on page 59 of the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue.

The idea behind this technique is for the image to look as if it has been drawn on a blackboard.
I used Basic Black card stock and stamped in Versa Mark them embossed with white embossing powder. I wanted the details of this lovely image to show clearly.
Next I used a Dauber and Whisper White ink to create the moon image and to gently smudge some ink across select areas of the embossed image. This creates the effect of a misty river scene, but also the effect of a blackboard where previous markings have been erased.

I combined this simple to create image with the gorgeous new Foil Edged Cards & Envelopes - these will be available to customers from September 5 when the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalogue goes on  sale. They are available in both Gold and Silver Foil and they are stunning. I cut my black base down to fit inside the perimeters of the front of the card, showing some white and silver and voila! instant matting.

I love colour so thought I'd add a little colour to another image I stamped. You can see it creates a very different card.

This time I kept the black card as a base and picked up a little colour in the mat.
I used my Stampin Blends - Mango Melody (dark) Daffodil Delight (dark) Cherry Cobbler (light) to colour in the moon and highlight a few areas of the scene. The smudging effect does not show up as well when colour is added to the mix, but I still like it. As you can see, adding a little colour makes a very different card.

So, now it is time to hop along to the next Blog for more inspiration. Follow the list of clever demonstrators below and then try one yourself. It is a quick technique  that gives awesome results, and I think there are lots of stamps that are suitable to use.

Until Next time,
Stay Crafty
