Beautiful Moments in Water Colour

Beautiful Moments is a stamp set that really "talks" to me. I have 3 beautiful daughters and the images remind me of happy memories when they were young.

I chose to use the water colouring technique with an Aqua Painter and the Stampin' Up! Classic Inks, working on Fluid 100 water-colour paper.

This photo shows the quick application of colour after the image has been stamped with Stazon ink. With this technique I find it unnecessary to stay completely within the outlines of the image, as freedom in applying the colour is important.

 I tore the Seaside Spray mat against a steel ruler to complete the card. This is easy to do and gives a quick finish to the card.

Good Tidings from Stampin' Up!

I know Christmas is over for another year, but I wanted to post this card and talk a little about the technique I used. 

It is quite a simple technique, but it does involve being just a little bit brave, particularly if you like everything to line up and be controlled!

The technique is "wet on wet".

And that, of course means wet paper and wet ink.

I've stamped the holly image from "Good tidings" onto water-colour paper that has been liberally spritzed with water. While the paper is still quite wet, ink up the stamp and apply it to the paper. This is the fun bit as you never quite know how it is going to turn out.

Allow the paper to dry and stamp the darker (Garden Green) , more detailed  stamp over that coloured area. 

This next step is where our new stamp positioning tool - the Stampin' UP! STAMPARATUS, comes in very handy. 

Position the lighter colour stamp, (Old Olive) stamp, then add the 2 steps for the berries and stamp them with Pink Pirouette and Cherry Cobbler. Finally position the branch and stamp with Early Espresso ink. 

The card is finished by matting onto Black then Cherry Cobbler card stock. The white stitching is "faux" and is created with a White Gel Pen.

This is a fun quick card to make despite all the 2 step images. The main characteristic is the wet background - it is so much fun creating these backgrounds.

This Little Piggy - Sweet & Humorous Cards for All Occasions

When the 2017 -18 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue was released, one of the stamp sets that caught my eye was the "This Little Piggy" set on page 48. As many of you know I love to colour, and I could imagine this set done in watercolour and this is what I came up with for my daytime class. 

I've used a couple of easy water colour techniques on the card, and found this card to be a good one for technique revision because we included masking as well.

Start with stamping the piggy outline in Archival Black on Water-colour Paper. 

Stamp the same image onto a Post It note and cut out just inside the outline. (Cut inside the line to eliminate the white shadow that occurs when stamping around a mask).

Place the mask over the stamped image of the pig, and ink up the Watercolor Wash stamp set. I don't bother to mount the stamp on a block as I want the background to be a little uneven and I achieve that look by just pressing the stamp down with my fingers. 

Remove the mask and use an Aqua Painter to colour the pig - I used Blushing Bride and Sweet Sugarplum ink for the pig and a little Pear Pizzazz for the grass. Build up your layers of ink to get nice depth in the shadow areas.

Punch out a small flower and raise it on a Mini Dimensional with a Rhinestone in the centre.

Touch up around the edge of the pig with the Aqua Painter and mat as desired. 

Here is another image using all the same techniques, but different colours.

What a happy little piggy!

Traditional Father Christmas Card

Today I have a traditional Christmas card for you, featuring the Father Christmas stamp set from Stampin' Up!'s® Holiday Catalogue. This Santa reminds me of what I imagined he would look like when I was young, so it is wonderful to have a detailed stamp to create some traditional Christmas cards.

I cased this design from a sample in the Holiday Catalogue with just a couple of little differences to cater to the product I had on hand. 

There are some really excellent samples in both the Stampin' Up! catalogues that provide inspiration and ideas for your card making. I thought this sample demonstrated the versatility of the stamp set as I have used 4 different stamps from the set on the card front.

Love You Best Birds

Today's card use the beautiful Best Birds stamp set from Stampin' Up!®.

I'm thoroughly enjoying playing with the images in this set and today I've combined one of the birds with a cut out from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits (available in the Annual Catalogue p. 194)

Lots of different Stampin' Up!® products combine in this eclectic card. The background uses the Watercolor Wash stamp that is inked and spritzed, and an image from Timeless Textures. I've also added some lace and Washi tape. The bird from Best Birds stamp set is stamped in Soft Suede Classic Ink then additional Soft Suede is added with a Blender Pen.  Pool Party was then washed over select areas using an Aqua Painter

The detail photo shows the layers plus a little Linen Thread tied around the Heart  from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlit set."Love" is also from the same Thinlit set. "you" is a stamp from the Endless Thanks stamp set available in the Annual Catalogue.
