I've had so much fun playing with new products from the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalogue this morning.
It was the day for my Beginners Techniques Class and this morning we were experimenting with the Rock 'n Roll Technique and variations. I love going back to the beginning once in a while and find that there are so many variations available to combine or use alone.
Basically, Rock 'n Roll involves inking up a stamp in one colour, then rolling that same stamp on an ink pad that is a darker colour. We played with lots of combinations and experimented with creating new colours from the colours overlaying each other.
Usually I would suggest using a solid background stamp - we started with this, but then went on to using the Rock n Roll technique on linear stamps. Careful rolling can create some great results and you can control the outcome to a certain extent. I also love how you cannot be certain of the outcome. Little suprizes are often very nice!

Don't you just love these earthy papers? They are from the new DSP range from Stampin' Up! - this one is called "WELL WORN" and consists of 12 sheets of lovely patterns and colours - perfect for men's cards and lovely for nature inspired scrap pages or cards.
Other techniques used on this card are:
Faux tearing
Sponging
Blender Pen and Classic Inks
Stampin' Write Marker (faux stitching)
Dry Embossing
Spritzing (with Stampin Write Marker and Spritzer Tool)
Masking
and
Distressing.
This detail shows the faux tearing: - a mask of torn paper, in the shape of a rough square, was placed over the stamped image then sponged in a variety of colours to create the illusion depth.
The spritzing can also be seen. The ink on the bird is PEACH PARFAIT overlaid with LUCKY LIMEADE and the faint background branches are SOFT SUEDE that has been stamped off once.
Embellishments are Hemp Twine and one of the beautiful brads from my favourite Antique Brads Collection.
The paper has been randomly folded along a length of Sticky Strip.
