Mini Catalogue Sneak Peek - Angels of Peace

 Very soon we will welcome the new Mini Catalogue from Stampin' Up!® And this week in the Freshly Brewed Projects blog Hop, we are giving you a sneak peek of some of the exciting new products.

This catalogue focuses on holidays and events for the next few months and my favourite time of the year (along with lots of other crafters) is Christmas.

I have chosen to create a card using the gorgeous Angels of Peace stamp set. As soon as I saw it  I knew I wanted to try to create an ethereal image using a water-colour technique. I could just see this beautiful image floating so I used re-inkers and the water painters from Stampin' Up!® on some Fluid 100 water colour paper.

Just a drop of re-inker in a palette will give you plenty of colouring options and for this project I chose Gorgeous Grape, Bermuda Bay,  Pacific Point,  Daffodil Delight and Polished Pink. When using these strong colours they lose a lot of their intensity when watered down and I was hoping to match them well with the stunning Shimmer Vellum (p. 135 AC) I've used the Fresh Freesia Shimmer Vellum - it is so beautiful.

I stamped with Basic Black as I cannot use Stazon, and then applied the colour  with a very wet brush. I did not try to "colour in" this image for this project, but I'm sure some different and exciting results will be achieved by using Stampin' Blends, Watercolor Pencil, or Soft Pastels. I also added a touch of Wink of Stella to the outside of the wings - it goes perfectly with the Shimmer Vellum!

I love the water marks left when adding different layers to the project and as you can see in this photo I also like to add a little yellow to any skin  that I'm colouring. I find it gives a more realistic look when viewed from a distance.

To enhance the image I added a Silver Foil mat, then a Shimmer Vellum mat onto the card front. Lots of products used in this project but so much fun to do.

Water-colour Technique with Meadow Dies

I've always enjoyed water-colour techniques and with the current focus by many crafters on alcohol ink techniques, I thought I would try a similar style using Stampin' Up!® re-inkers and water.

In the new Annual Catalogue, you will see a lot of new and fabulous die sets. The Meadow Dies stood out to me straight away - I love flowers and nature and I could see lots of use for them.

I used some of the Fluid 100 Water Color paper. Just lay down plenty of water with a large brush then dip a smaller brush into a drop of re-inker placed in a palette. This goes a long way so be very frugal with the amount of ink in your palette.

You will notice the ink spread. Repeat this with other colours until you are happy with your background. You may need to spritz with a little water if you are working in a heated room. You may also want to add more depth in the colour. Just add more ink from the tip of your brush. 

As the background dries off a little you can create more "lines" by dropping water onto the already inked areas.

Originally I wanted to create these backgrounds with a silhouette image, but when I used the die to cut the image I found another card just waiting to be made from the cut out piece. What a bonus! 2 cards from one die cut and one background.

Grandma's House

Are you a grandma? I am, and I like to think my 4 little ones love to visit.  

I love the whimsy of these stamps from Stampin' Up! and they are aptly named Grandma's House. Of course I had to have this set and I wanted to create a card that was both quick but also "went with the flow". As a grandma that is often what I need/want to do!

I chose the technique where the outline is embossed in Clear embossing powder  then the images are coloured with Classic Inks and an Aqua Painter. With any water colouring I like to apply the colour freely and not worry too much about staying within the lines. 

The card has a Purple Posy Base and the design is roughly matted with Gorgeous Grape and backed with Grapefruit Grove DSP.

Stamped and Water-colour Bird Ballad Card

The beautiful water-coloured images in Stampin' Up!'s  Bird Ballad Designer Series Papers are an inspiration to me to do my own stamping and colouring.

This card uses stamps from Free As A Bird cling stamp set of 12 - 6 images and 6 greeting so there is lots of opportunity to create.

I've combined my stamped and coloured images with one of the patterned sheets from Bird Ballad DSP, and added some simple circular shapes cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits.

I adore the freedom of water-colouring, and enjoy all the little watermarks that happen in the colouring process. It's not important to me to have perfectly blended areas, and I love the nuances of transparent layers of different colours. 

The images of the bird, the flowers and the leaves were stamped on Shimmery White card and fussy cut with Stampin' Up! Paper Snips. Then they were layered and placed to flow from the circles through to the background papers.

Stamp Class of the Month - Watercolour Techniques - Project 2

As promised I have the second project from my Water colour pencil technique class of the month, and this time I used one of the fantastic free offerings from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue.

Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper.

At the start of the class I gave each person a card sized piece of this DSP, showed them a couple of ways to colour it and we all had a little practice. I had to drag them away from that to get started on the class projects, but we used this to fill in any "waiting time" that occurred when using the stamps or framelits. And, they all wanted some of this by the end of the night!

This paper is so much fun to colour with the Stampin' Up! water colour pencils

and it also makes a great base for gift bags.
I made 8 of these for my customers in the class (just to save time for the main focus of the class- colouring) and it was a quick and easy job using the Gift Bag Punch Board.

Our project for the class was to create a tag for the bag and for this we started with a 2 inch wide strip of basic black card that was punched at the top with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and at the base with the Banner Triple Punch. Next we used the new and totally awesome Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder (find this on page 47 of the Occasions Catalogue)
I love that this folder gives you different textures on either side of the card stock so you can choose which ever works best with your design.

The leaves and flower images are from the Special Reason Bundle (saves you 10% when you buy both the Framelits and Stamp set) and the technique we used on these images is to colour back over the stamped image with the w/c pencils. This stamp set gives the impression of a flat texture on the petals and leaves when you stamp it, and you can create additional depth and colour by using the pencils over parts of the stamped image.

 I also added some Clear Wink of Stella to the petals. Love a little Wink!

This final photo shows you where I have added Pacific Point on top of stamped Old Olive leaves. It just adds a bit of depth to the leaf and I love to see lots of colour in botanical images. After all nature is full of colour. I used a Blender Pen to blend the small areas of colour.
I've left some of the strokes in the flower petals un-blended (is that a word?) as the stronger colour gives greater depth. I used Real Red, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight w/c pencils over the flower image that had been stamped in Melon Mambo ink. I also added some black.

We did all our additional colouring with the w/c pencils and the blending,  before cutting out the shapes using the Stylish Stems Framelits.

The tag is attached using Whisper White Thick Bakers Twine.

There is one more project to see and I will do a separate post for that one too.
