Distant Memories

It's been quite a while since I completed a scrap page, and this year I'm determined to create at least one page for each of the monthly technique topics from my scrapbook classes. I love these classes and thoroughly enjoy the time spent in my downstairs studio with friends who either come on a regular basis, or drop in when they have time.

My classes (4 per month) are on the same topic - this month's topic is the brick wall technique - and it is so much fun to see the variety of results that come about. Some of the girls like to CASE my work, others like to do their own thing. It's all good because we are using up my supplies and having fun in the process.

Here is my example for February:

Can you guess why it is called Distant Memories? This is a photo of my first house, just a few weeks before I was married in 1972. Oh how I loved that house - it was 40 years old when we bought it and it is still standing and looking pretty much the same to this day. It was a sad day for me when we had to pack up and move to Canberra just one year after buying this little beauty.

To create the brick effect you just need to cut DSP into blocks approximately 4 x 7.5 cm, and sponge around the edges of each one with a co-ordinating colour (I used my fave at the moment - Soft Suede). The layout is positioned on Kraft or Crumb Cake 30 x 30 cm card that has been stamped with Soft Suede images.

Some additional embellishments were created using various stamps from Stampin' Up!® sets and the divine "Antique Brads" are perfect for the flower centres. You can also see the variety of faux and embossed texture created, and I just had to add a little "graffiti"  to my brick wall.

I love this old style Hodge Podge from Stampin' Up!, and hoard it like it's gold. Wish they'd bring that one back to the catalogue! I've also used my very useful and easy "Timeless Type Junior Alphabet" Sizzlits dies with my Big Shot, to create the title.

View some of the other Scrap Pages completed in my group classes. If you live in the Canberra area and would like to join these classes, please see my Demonstrator Business website for further details. I have plenty of vacancies for the Thursday night classes and would welcome you joining us.
