Christmas Designer Series Papers - Stampin Up!

Hello and welcome to another Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop.

This week we are showing you some ways to use the Stampin' Up!® Christmas Designer Series Papers on our projects, and to show how versatile our papers are, not just for cards, I've chosen a Christmas ornament for my project.

This ornament is easy to make out of strips of paper, and I made 2 sizes: - the large ornament starts with a 6 inch square of paper cut into 1/2 inch strips.

The smaller ornament is a 3 inch square cut into 1/4 inch strips.

Basically you can make any size ornament - it just requires the initial square to be cut into 12 equal width strips, so working with 3 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch etc makes it easy to work out the maths.

The Designer Series Paper I've used is Whimsy & Wonder which comes as part of the Whimsy & Wonder Suite on page 24 of the July - December Mini Catalogue .

I chose 3 of the patterns and as you can see the reverse side of the paper, it plays a role in the look of the completed ornament.

Let's take a look at a couple of the steps in making these ornaments.

6 strips are woven together. You can see a quick video on my Youtube channel showing in detail the next steps that are a little hard to explain.

And the finished products from 2 of the papers I used:
This also shows the difference in size using a 6 inch square and a 3 inch square.

The centres of the snowflakes are created with foil paper and the wonderful
So Many Snowflakes Dies from the Annual Catalogue. You can either leave it with just the snowflake or add another embellishment. I'm sure you are like me and have lots of suitable embellishments in your craft area. 😉

Now it is time for you to hop along to the other demonstrator's blogs to see other creative uses of Christmas DSP. I'm sure you'll be inspired, so leave us a comment when you visit, PM me your address, and I will send you a kit and written instructions for making these ornaments.

Best Wishes and happy crafting

Whimsy & Wonder Random Patchwork Card

  Images copyright Stampin' Up!® 1990 -2022

The Whimsy & Wonder Suite in the Stampin' Up!® July - December Mini Catalogue, caught my eye the first time I saw it. The colours are gorgeous and I was particularly attracted to the long stemmed trees in the accompanying dies. I've used the die cut trees as focal points in my cards.

The colours in the Designer Series Papers are fresh and work beautifully together so I decided to show off a few of them at a time using the Random Patchwork background technique.
An easy technique that requires 4 different patterned papers all cut to the same size for your background. Then you layer the papers one on top of the other, and make 4 angled cuts through the 4 pieces of paper. Next ,it's a simple matter of placing the pieces so that you end up with 4 backgrounds each being slightly different . You will make these backgrounds back to the original size before they were cut.
Adhere the pieces to a white background then die cut any large shape you would like to use. I used Scalloped Contours dies

You can make a variety of cards by changing the background papers, the mat colours and the die cut images. This next card features the Christmas baubles heat embossed in silver , hand coloured with ink and die cut with dies from the set.

Butterfly Beauty and Peaceful Poppies Card

Butterflies and poppies remind me of Spring - a beautiful time of the year in my garden. We are just entering Autumn in Australia. It's getting colder and we have stage 4 social distancing and isolation in place because of COVID-19 so I decided to get out some of my Stampin' Up! goodies to make a cheery card with lovely flowers and butterflies to send a little sunshine in the mail.
I love the colours in this sheet of Peaceful Poppies DSP and have chosen Blackberry Bliss and Whisper White to enhance the paper. The Butterfly Beauty dies are easy to trim to reposition some of the butterflies if you want to rearrange them to suit your design.

I adhered the butterflies with just a few dots of Multipurpose Adhesive then added some White Flax Ribbon and a greeting from Timeless Tropical stamp set that has been punched out with the Pretty Label punch from Stampin' Up! The greeting is raised with Stampin' Dimensionals, and I've added some faux stitching around the edge of the shape.
Finally to add a little bling (because who doesn't like bling?) I added some gold stars and heart.
See all the products I used in the grid below, and if you'd like to order any of these products and you live in Australia, you are welcome to shop with me or you can simply click on the item below and it will take you to that item in my store.

My best wishes to all my readers - stay well, stay safe and have some fun with your crafting.

Stampin' Up! A World of Dreams

A World of Dreams stamp set by Stampin' Up! is another silhouette style stamp set that is great for stamping over brayered backgrounds and on lightly patterned Designer Series Papers.

My card today uses some Designer Series Paper (Watercolour Wonder -retired - sob!) as the background, and I've stamped over it using
Island Indigo Classic ink from Stampin' Up! It is one of the colours from the papers and just another way Stampin' Up! makes it easy for you to be creative by having papers and inks coordinating.

The details show the use of linen thread and a brushed gold button. I love these buttons that can be purchased in either gold or silver from my on-line store and if you hurry you can get the gold ones at a discount!

The image has been matted onto a piece of Island Indigo card and then onto whisper White that has been embossed with the very useful Decorative Dots embossing folder. Of course you need a Big Shot for embossing!

This is a simple quick card - hope it inspires you to try stamping on patterned papers.

Until next time,

Stampin' Up!® Papers Make Pretty Card Backgrounds

I love to use my Stampin' Up!® Designer Series Papers on cards - particularly when I'm in a hurry to achieve a fabulous result without too much effort.

Today's card is one of the 2 cards made in my June Stamp A Stack class.

The only stamping on this card is the greeting - "Happy Birthday" from the gorgeous and soon to retire "Curly Cute" (#121500) stamp set. The clear mount stamp set is sold out but you can still order the wood mount set up to June 30, 2013.

The butterfly is from the "Papillon Potpourri" (#123757) stamp set. It coordinates beautifully with "Elegant Butterfly" punch (#127526 ) making it so easy to create these lovely embellishments.

The detail photos shows the use of a Blender Pen to add a touch of colour to match which ever papers you are using.

For this card I used papers from "Tea For Two" DSP (item # 129311) - it can be found in the Occasions catalogue, but like the Curly Cute stamps set, it will only be available until June 30. I simply punched the circles out of the paper and mounted them on some scrap card, then sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink.

Actually I love this paper so much I think I am going to order some more via my on-line store before it retires.

that's it for today - a quick card and a quick post.

Until next time,

Stay Crafty!

Bird House Boxes

Today I have some cute little Bird House boxes I created for a Stampin' Up! Heartfelt Event in November. I really love how they turned out and although it was a bit of hit and miss to work out the construction method, I finally got there with some experimenting. Actually the houses are not so little and they make a lovely happy statement in my craft room where I display them. You can create any size or shape once you learn the technique and it really is so much fun.

I'm planning on making some Easter ones next as my little grandson loved these and asked if he could have one for a present.

The smallest house (orange and blue) has a removable roof and can become a really cute gift box.

One of my favourite Stampin Up Designer Series Paper Packs from the Annual Catalogue, is the POLKA DOT PARADE  pack. I just love how it is so happy!
For this project I chose to compliment the papers with Black and White card stock. I purchased the spindles from Bunnings, painted them white and glued them together in a variety of combinations to achieve different heights for my houses.

The details I added are intended to give personality to each individual "sculpture". I used a variety of Stampin' Up! punches to create the faux window holes, scraps of painted chip board to make the broken picket fence and heart embellishments (cut out with my BIG SHOT  and Stampin Up dies ) and some of the gorgeous Scallop Edge Tulle from the Holiday Catalogue - you better order some of that quickly if you want it, as the Holiday Catalogue finishes in just 3 days time!

Here is a detail photo of the embellishments.

Each chipboard shape has been covered with the Polka Dot Parade DSP and the edges have been sponged with Stampin' Up! Basic Black ink.
Due to popular demand, I will be doing a class on this house building technique in April 2013. If you live in the Canberra region you are welcome to contact me to register.
For details please go to my Demonstrator Business Website and check out the Calendar of Events

Christmas Trees in Stampin' Up Papers

Hi again stampin' friends - I'm back with another post featuring some Christmas trees that I made using the SIMPLY SCORED SCORING TOOL  and a variety of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers. I made these trees because I love using the SIMPLY SCORED and thought they would make a lovely ornament around the house during the festive season, and I also needed some projects to present at the recent Stampin' Up! Heartfelt Event held in Sydney.

This is a quick project as you can score a full 30 x 30 cm page at the one time and then cut it to the sizes you require, or you can cut first, punch a decorative edge then score.

The first tree I made was a small one using BE OF GOOD CHEER Designer Series Paper - this was the experimental one and I learned a few short cuts as I progressed through the process. The tree is secured around  a foam shape. This keeps it light and provides a good shape to guide you as you add the layers. I've covered a small styrofoam ball with MULTIPURPOSE LIQUID GLUE and CHAMPAGNE STAMPIN' GLASS GLITTER.  The glass glitter has also been adhered around the base of each layer  of tree.

The next tree uses some of the retired MOCHA MORNING SPECIALTY PAPER by Stampin' Up! I wanted this tree  to be larger, so I used a larger foam shape. Again the lengths of the scored strips of paper are a bit random, but it did achieve the rather rustic effect I was after. I used Hot Glue to adhere the layers to the foam, but found it was too hot and started to melt the foam. This one turned out to be more weighty than the other two examples.

The final tree - and this was the one I took and demonstrated at the Stampin' Up! Heartfelt Event, was constructed with much more precision. Each of the top 4 layers is one strip of 30cm and are the same width. The bottom layer is 45cm in length and approximately 2 cm wider. The white frills are cut separately to the same length as  the coloured layers and are adhered with snail adhesive after scoring and concertina folding each strip. I marked where the layers needed to be attached and placed 2 lines of STICKY STRIP  for every layer, around the foam shape. Then it was just a simple task to press the "rosette" shape onto the sticky strip, starting from the base of the tree.

I tied some CRUMB CAKE SCALLOP EDGE TULLE in a bow and added some 6.4 mm STITCHED GROSGRAIN ribbon. The papers are from the POLKA DOT PARADE DSP  range and that is rapidly becoming one of my favourite paper sets.

In Australia it is usually quite hot at Christmas and although we love the traditional aspects of Christmas I thought a brighter tree would be appropriate for our situation. It also coordinates with my Bird House project that I will post soon.

Until next time

Stampin Up Designer Series Papers for Stamping A Stack of Cards

I can't believe it has been so long since I last posted some of my Stampin' Up!® inspired  projects. Life gets so busy at times. However I have been doing some creating and today I'll show you the projects we did for the November Stamp A Stack class. I always end up giving my guests too much work to do in the allotted time, so this month I tried to minimize the stamping and get instant gratification with Designer Series Papers.

I love the results and am very happy with the wonderful creations from this class. As usual the ladies put their own spin on their individual cards and you can see a few of their results further down in the post.

I chose to use the delightful PAISLEY PETALS DSP as the basis for these cards. This pack offers so much variety and coordinates with so many of the wonderful Stampin' Up Classic Ink colours.

Here are my samples of the 1st card style:

I used 2 different papers on the top card cutting 2.5 cm up from the base. The "faux ribbon" is created by running a strip of snail along the join, then randomly folding another strip of patterned paper along the adhesive. The stamp is YOUNG VERMILLION  which is one of the single stamps available from Stampin' Up! plus I've used a retired stamp from A QUIET LIFE for the words, and the splotchy stamp from FRENCH FOLIAGE to add depth and interest on what was a plain white background.

The flower is created from my favourite of the BIG SHOT FLOWER DIES - FUN FLOWERS. Just 2 of the same shape cut and scrunched prior to being dusted with a sponge loaded with ink.

For our techniques we returned to the fascinating ROCK N ROLL, a little WATER COLOURING  with the AQUA PAINTERS  and of course the ever useful SPONGING.  We also added a little SPRITZING  with the STAMPIN' WRITE MARKERS  and the SPRITZER TOOL.

And here is the second card - much simpler to create:-

Just a couple of card stock colours here: Pretty In Pink and Whisper White from Stampin' Up!  Other cards in the set used Rose Red and White and Wisteria Wonder and White. Texture varied depending on the choice of the creator and the image was stamped in EARLY ESPRESSO before being coloured with the AQUA PAINTER  and the ink that corresponded to the card colour..

The detail at the base is created with the EYELET BORDER PUNCH and you can see in the photo below that water colouring is a spontaneous technique that brings softness to your images.  It's nice to add a soft wash at the outer edge of the image to soften it's existence on the card.

And next I have a photo of some of the lovely crafters (all hard at work!) who regularly join me for STAMP A STACK  classes and then some of the completed cards. You can see the subtle varieties in each person's interpretation of the task - this is of constant inspiration to me and is always a joy to see as I love to inspire people to develop their own creativity, and I love to be inspired by others colour combinations, choice of textures etc.

If you live in the Canberra area and would like to join my classes - Stamp A Stacks are held once a month currently but will probably be extended to 2 nights next year - you are welcome to contact me via my Demonstrator Business Website
