Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop - Ways With Vellum

Another week has flown by and it's time to say Hi again and join in with the weekly Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop. This week we are showing you "Ways With Vellum" and I've chosen a very simple method of heat embossing and die cutting vellum.

My card is a Christmas Card based on the beautiful returning Designer Series Paper Stack, Feels Like Frost. The images in this stack are photographic and are stunning. I love the colours and the images. I've chosen to heat emboss the greeting onto Vellum by stamping with Versamark ink and applying White Embossing powder.

You can see in the detail photo that Vellum also cuts beautifully with the detailed Ornate Layers Dies.

Embossing on Vellum requires a little care when using the heat tool. Don't be impatient and take your time with the heating - if you get the vellum too hot it will bubble and buckle.

To complete the card I used 2 of the snowflakes from So Many Snowflakes Dies in the Handmade For You Mini Catalogue. The dies are so easy to use and cut beautifully. I cut them from some retired White Velvet card stock and placed a Rhinestone Jewel in the centre of each one.

This card is quick and easy.

Simple Stamping Techniques Blog Hop - Christmas Decoration

Hello and thanks for joining us again this month for another fun Simple Stamping Techniques blog Hop.

This month we are showing you some simple Christmas decorations that you'll be able to make using Stampin' Up! products and I have chosen an ornament that I enjoy making for a number of reasons.

1. You get 4 large ornaments from 1 sheet of 12 x 12 inch Designer Series Paper so they are economical.

2. They can easily be made in a variety of sizes. I like to make Large (6 inches square) Medium (4 inches square) and Small (3 inches square) to give variety when hanging them in a group.

3. You can decorate them up to create really sparkly ornaments or keep them relatively plain for a more rustic result.

Today I have used the beautiful "Feels Like Frost" 6 x 6 inch DSP that is available in the Holiday Catalogue. These papers have beautiful colours on one side and Silver foil designs on the other side, and although many of them have photographic images they look awesome when cut up into 1/2 inch strips.

Both sides of the paper will show on the finished ornament, and it is easier to create if each side is distinctly different. You can change the look of the ornament by completing each side with a dominate pattern, or you can alternate the patterns on the one side. Experimenting with this is fun and you'll be amazed at the variety you can achieve using the same paper each time.

As I mentioned earlier you can use many different styles of paper for these ornaments. If you prefer the rustic look, simply use wood grain paper for a very different look.

April Scrap Page Layout.

Hi Scrappers! Welcome to my April Scrap page design.

I decided to keep it simple this month and use mainly card stock, Designer Series Papers from Stampin' Up! and a little bit of stamping.

I had in mind the technique of Faux Embossing where you cut out shapes in the same colour as the background and adhere them to create texture. As you can see I've loosely interpreted this technique. I wanted to add a little interest so I used tonal colours and the fabulous Gingham Gala 6 x 6 inch patterned paper.

I'm in love with Stitched Framelits of all sizes and find myself constantly using them for cards and scrap pages. Perhaps it's because I used to be a mad keen sewer, but they are simple to use and give a great effect.

This is my layout.

I decided all the geometric shapes needed a little softening, so I used this retired Stampin' Up! stamp that has some lovely little stitched areas in the design. I stamped it full strength and half strength, by stamping a second time without re-inking. I really like the contrast of the flowing lines and the geometric shapes.
