FRESHLY BREWED PROJECTS CUTE CHRISTMAS

Christmas is not far off now and for the next few blog hops we will be focusing on giving you ideas for your cards. Today's Freshly Brewed Blog Hop will show you some Cute Christmas card ideas.

I've chosen to use a Beachy Christmas theme, as that is where I plan on spending my Christmas and Summer holidays. My grandchildren tell me they will be spending 4 - 6 weeks with me at our beach house, so that will be lots of fun.

For my card today I've combined the cute Mermaid from Pirates & Mermaids stamp set on page 58 of the Annual Catalogue with some die cut starfish from Friends Are Like Seashells (p. 27 AC), holly and berries from Happy Holly-Days (p. 27 in the July - December Mini Catalogue) and Whimsy & Wonder Specialty Designer Series Paper ( p.25 in the July - December Mini Catalogue)

I had so much fun colouring the images using my Stampin' Blends. I like to use a variety of colours and for this card I used: Polished Pink (light & dark), Daffodil Delight (dark), Soft Suede (light), Soft Succulent (light & dark), Ivory, Petal Pink (dark) and Seaside Spray (light)

A technique I love to use is layering of the elements using dimensionals. Stampin' Up! has Dimensionals in 2 sizes and both sizes come in either Black or White

You can see that I've used 4 different stamp sets for this project. I like to combine different images to try to create something really unique. I hope you enjoy this card.

Chevron Quilt Strip Background - Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop

After missing a couple of the Freshly Brewed Blog Hops, I'm pleased to be back to participate in this fun background technique - Chevron strip quilting.

This technique ties in nicely with the Stampin' Up! October promotion of

15% discount on select Designer Series papers

For my card today I decided to use the lovely Snowflake Splendor DSP. I love the variety of blues in this paper and felt that it would give exactly the effect I was looking for. I combined it with Silver Foil and Whisper White card.

I used Night of Navy ink to stamp the greeting, with the Stamping Off technique for the "Joy" so that it would be closer in colour to the background colours. These sentiments are from the "Peace & Joy" bundle on page 18 of the Handmade For You Catalogue. The Silver leaf motifs are from the "Forever Flourishing" dies and the snowflake is one of the small dies from "So Many Snowflakes" dies.

I've also added some Snowflake Adhesive Backed Sequins.

So how do you make the background?

For my card I cut 2cm wide strips from the Designer Series Paper and glued them diagonally on to a background of Whisper White card. The card stock measures 10cm x 14.4cm. You need to make 2 of these, with one being a mirror image of the other.

Then trim around the edge of the white card with scissors. When dry, cut into 2cm wide strips and arrange them alternately to form the Chevron pattern. You will have enough strips for 2 backgrounds.

You can create very different effects by altering the width of your strips, and where I have my strips butted together for the background, you can also place them slightly apart to have the base card showing through.

This is a fun technique and a good way to use up left over Designer Series Papers.

Let's see what the other designers have created with Designer Series Papers and this technique.

Coming Home Card

Hello again Stampin' friends.

Today I have a card using the Coming Home stamps by Stampin' Up! and the Home Together coordinating dies.

There is a little story behind this card - recently we bought a beach house for family holidays - something I've wanted to do for many years. I found just the right one for us and fortunately, with the help of a lovely real estate agent, negotiations were completed to our satisfaction.  I loved the Coming Home stamp set when I first saw it, and I thought it would be appropriate for a card.

Our beach house is on a cliff front overlooking the ocean, and I wanted the card to reflect that, so I added some waves using a retired Stampin' Up! embossing folder.

I stamped all the images with Memento ink and coloured them with Stampin' Blends. The images were then die cut with the coordinating Home Together dies.

It is fun to "build" a little village using the houses and trees and I added layers by overlapping and raising the images with Dimensionals.

The front of the card is cut so the back-ground Designer Series Paper shows through. That means if you layer the houses above the horizon line, you will need to use some sort of method to cover them on the inside of the card.

I decided to simply stamp and colour some more houses and trees.

It was so much fun creating this card and it shows how you can use this stamp set for more than just Christmas cards.
