Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop - For the Guys

Hello again, and welcome to another Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop. Today we have the theme - For The Guys, and as Fathers Day is coming up next month in Australia, it is a great way to use the inspiration for you to create some cards for a special guy in your life. But wherever you are in the world, there is a special man, son, son-in-law or friend who would love to get a hand made card.

I have chosen to use the stamp set - A Good Man. This set is perfect for the water colouring technique, and I have chosen the simplest form of this technique this time, choosing to use Stampin' Up! Water Color pencils 1 and 2 packs.

This detail view shows how beautifully the w/c pencils blend with a little water. Something I love about them is that you have a lot of control over colour placement yet you still achieve the lovely fluid effect of water-colouring. It is such a quick technique that can easily be overworked, so the trick is to leave lots of white space and not colour in the entire area. The "painting" part of this technique took less than 1 minute for this card.

You can get more depth of colour by applying stronger pencil strokes before adding the water. You can also get variety in colour by using different colour pencils on the image before applying the water.

When I was at art school I was taught never to cut water colour paper, but to tear it. So I used a steel ruler against the paper and tore along the edges. I love the slight roughness achieved - it just seems to "go" with this technique and the texture in the paper.

I teamed the image with patterned paper from the Boho Indigo Suite, matted onto Night of Navy A4 card and embellished with some Terracotta Tile Scalloped Linen Ribbon.

My family loves the beach and we are all looking forward to the summer holidays when we can relax and enjoy the sunshine. We've just accomplished a lifelong wish of purchasing a house at the coast, so there will be lots of beach time for us in the future. And that thought is my inspiration for this card. It's a really good thought as I sit here on another cold winter morning.

I plan on giving this card to my husband who works 7 days a week. It's time he slowed down a bit.  I wonder if he will get the message!

Please see the list of products below and click on any product that you wish to purchase. Simple Stamping Techniques - Easter Greeting Side Step Card

Hello, and welcome once again to the Simple Stamping Techniques Blog Hop. Today we are showing you samples using the Side Step Technique used to construct the card. You can achieve many variations of the side step, depending on the measurements you choose to use.

As Easter is fast approaching, I used an Easter theme for my card with images from Fable Friends, by Stampin' Up! You can find this adorable set in the Occasions Catalogue. I teamed this set with the Gingham Gala 6 x 6 inch DSP.

I love water-colouring so it was a obvious to me to use that technique, but I made it simple for myself by using the Stampin' Up! Water Colour Pencils. They are so easy to use and work very well on Stampin' Up! water colour paper.

The first photo shows the method I use for applying the w/c pencil. I leave plenty of white space because the colour will blend.

I stamped the figures using Early Espresso as the outline colour will then form a slight shadow at the edges. It is water based so will dissolve a little when water from an Aqua Painter is added.

I fussy cut out the images  with using my Stampin' Up! paper snips, and used the Stitched Rectangle Framelit dies to create a little interest around the edges of the background paper.

The dimensions I used for my card are:
15cm x 22cm
Turn the paper to landscape orientation and score at 11cm
Then score across to 9 cm from RHS
@ 2.5cm, 5cm, 8cm and 16cm.
Turn the paper to portrait orientation
Cut from 2.5cm mark to 16cm mark 9cm in from Right Hand Side.
Crease folds with a Bone Folder

I hope you've enjoyed this card. You can find the products used in my Store.

It is now time to follow the links to the next sample of a Side Step Card. Enjoy hopping!

Waterclour Pencils and Mediterranean Moments

Today's post continues with the water colour theme, and this time I combined the beautiful Stampin' Up! stamp set Mediterranean Moments, Beautiful You, Timeless Textures and the Water Colour Pencils together.

I wanted to keep this very simple and show my class how quickly you can make a card using the w/c pencils as your colouring agent.

You will be able to tell that in order to place the girl in the middle of the scene, I used the masking technique while creating this card.  I've kept the colouring to a minimum and only selected a few sections of the scene to colour in.

I used Archival Black from Stampin' Up! to stamp the images and did some light applications of colour with the pencils. I blended them with an Aqua Painter, and afterwards spritzed the entire image with water. I love how the colour runs a little, and how the watercolour paper happily accepts the additional water.

I thought the card was lacking a little in balance so added a texture stamp using Real Red classic ink at the bottom corner and the top of the opposite side. This stamp is one of the many versatile stamps from Timeless Textures, and is wonderful to add that finishing touch to a card.
So if you haven't tried this easy method of watercolouring, order yourself some pencils, w/c paper and Archival ink and you will be ready to start.

Happy Stamping to you all,

This paper coordinates really well with one of my favourite stamp sets from the Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalogue, and that is......

Dragonfly Dreams #142924

I've had a couple of water colour card classes this week and we all enjoyed the colouring. I really loved that each person's card turned out with it's own personality.

This is the card I made for the sample.

We used the new Water Colour Pencils from the Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalogue with an Aqua Painter. You can also use a Blender Pen to blend the colour if you prefer more control.

The lace at the base is actually a stamp - one of the free sets from the SAB catalogue - Delicate Details. this has been heat embossed with white embossing powder and is very realistic.

The greeting is made with 2 stamps from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set  positioned together on a clear block and stamped onto vellum.

If you live in Australia and would like to take advantage of the Sale-A-Bration promotion you can order at my on-line store. While you are there don't forget to look at the Clearance Rack for even more bargains.
