Double Diagonal Fold Card - With A Difference

I've been busy making this "old favourite" style of card - the double diagonal fold card, over the last few weeks. We did one at this months Christmas Card Stamp A Stack and it reminded me just how much I enjoy this technique; how easy and how versatile it is for a variety of occasions.

Today I'm showing you one card I made for a friend who will soon be moving overseas. She is such a creative spirit and she loves her "fur babies" so the card had to have a puppy on it, plus some reference to moving or travel. This is what I came up with using some retired Stampin' Up! stamps and papers.

I chose this colour range as I know she is quite fond of these colours.

 The flowers are made from Stampin' Up! Vanilla card stock that has been stamped and sponged with Marina Mist and Early Espresso inks. The scalloped detail is also Vanilla card that has been stamped and sponged. The flower is held together with an Antique Brad.

                                                                                          Water-colouring is one of my favourite stamping techniques and I'm always ready with my Aqua Painter to add a little colour to my stamped images. I deliberately kept the colouring light on this card, but enhanced the tag by stamping the swirls and adding some grunge from the Gorgeous Grunges stamp set.

 The second tag has also been stamped  and it was shaped with one of the new Tag Topper Punches from Stampin' Up! These punches are very versatile and add a great finish to your tags. The folding technique is simple and instructions can be found on the Splitcoast stampers website.

Stampin Up Blossom Punch Flowers

You may have noticed a new blog header that appeared recently on my blog- yes it is PINK. There are two reasons for this - one is in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month - an organization close to my heart, and the other is that I just learned how to make those gorgeous flowers and I think they are pretty!

The flowers are made using the BLOSSOM PUNCH  from Stampin' Up! and they can be used on all sorts of projects.

One such project uses a DECORATIVE WINDOW GIFT BOX  that can be found in the Holiday Catalogue. This has a stamped candle inside and is tied with Blushing Bride 1.9 cm Chevron Ribbon.

I love the pretty detail around the window on the box.

This flower is made from Pink Pirouette Card that has been sponged with Melon Mambo and Soft Suede inks. It has been spritzed with a mix of shimmer paint and Isocol. 

Now I need to go to my on-line store and order a new Blossom Punch. I took mine down to Melbourne with me last weekend and it was damaged in my case on the way home. What a nuisance. It still works but takes extra time to align - funny thing is, I was thinking of buying another of these punches "just in case" something happened to mine. I really cannot do without this punch.

Spring And Stampin' Up Colour

Spring is such a happy time of the year - colours everywhere and I always look to see what matches my Stampin' Up! inks.The gardens are full of colour, trees bursting into life with new leaves and blossoms and here in Canberra we host the premier Flower show in Australia - Floriade. I went along to Night Fest this year and enjoyed some dinner with my husband and the fantastic night lights. Here are some photos.

 Of course during the day the colours are brighter and lighter and this inspired me to create the decorations on a little 2 pocket bag I had  waiting to be completed.

 I used retired Stampin' Up! paper for the Double Pocket Bag and combined it with Certainly Celery, So Saffron and Whisper White for the square motif and doily. The doily is made with the new DELICATE DOILIES SIZZLITS L die that you can find on p. 191 of the Annual Catalogue.

I made the large flower using  So Saffron card stock and the 6 cm SCALLOP CIRCLE PUNCH  from Stampin' Up! I love the flowers that can be made with this punch - they look quite like Camelias. I dusted the edges with TANGERINE TANGO  ink and a sponge.

The leaves are stamped using my favourite stamp set, FRENCH FOLIAGE, then cut by hand, folded, sponged and attached with glue dots. I keep coming back to this set to help with embellishments and to add final details to other projects. Cards and Scrap Pages all benefit from me owning this one.

Hawaiin Inspiration jac-inks Challenge 3

Today I have a couple of bright and summery samples I made as inspiration for the latest "jac-inks" Challenge #3

For some reason I just could not get away from flowers, but that's OK as I had loads of fun making up different flowers from shapes cut with the Big Shot.

My first sample is a scrap page that I envisaged as soon as I saw the inspiration photo. How I'm going to place the photos, I just don't quite know yet, but I'm sure something will just "happen" into my mind one day and it will all work out.

 

I used a flourish stencil to create the "waves" and all the other shapes are created with the Big Shot.

 

A little sponging on the layers of each flower helps to give them depth, and you'll notice Rhinestone brads in the centres of most of the flowers. 

The detail shot shows the variety of flowers that can be made, and the little butterflies help to spread dots of orange throughout the layout.

The next sample is a card. 

This time I've stamped and water-coloured the flowers, using my ink pads and an Aqua Painter. The background is created by pre-inking the dry embossing folder, and the leaves are cut with the Little Leaves  die.
