Watercolour Birthday Boy Epic Celebrations

I don't know about you but I find making cards for the boys in my family much harder than for the girls. This stamp set from Stampin' Up! - Epic Celebrations - is just perfect for teenagers or even "want to be" teenagers, so it was the obvious choice for my grandson who will turn 10 this week. 

I enjoyed water colouring the sneakers using my Stampin' Up! water color pencils and an Aqua Painter. 

HOW TO USE WATER COLOR PENCILS

This is such a quick and easy way to colour:

I have used 2 methods on the shoes. 

*The first is colouring with the pencil, directly onto the paper and just along one edge of the area to be coloured. Then use a clean Aqua Painter to blend the colour away from the edges and form some contours of the shoe. Add more colour as needed.

* the second is using the pencil as a palette. Touch the tip of the Aqua Painter directly onto the colour on the tip of the pencil and paint onto the desired area. The soft pigment in the pencil will transfer to the brush. This method is great for adding more depth to the areas already painted.

* Create shadow with a little grey and blue.

I combined the stamped image with some of the elements from the True Gentleman Suite. The colours in this suite are really awesome and the accessories like the Night of Navy Corduroy Ribbon, add the finishing touch to the card. The background paper is from the True Gentleman Designer Series Paper pack. This has an abundance of beautiful masculine patterns that help create quick backgrounds for your stamping.

Sheltering Tree Emboss Resist Technique

My Sheltering Tree stamp set has been sitting on my desk waiting to be used for a few months now, so with last week's Christmas Card Stamp A Stack, I decided I just had to use it.

I'd read during the week how the new juicier Classic Ink Pads from Stampin' Up! work well with embossing powder, as long as you work quickly, so I thought we should all try that too. Thinking about the infinite array of embossed colours I could now include in my stamping repertoire, I chose Early Espresso for the tree trunks, stamped it and quickly covered the image with Clear Embossing Powder - it worked well! 

The variety of elements in this stamp set enable you to create fun cards or traditional cards, and for this one I erred on the traditional side. The snowflakes and the ground are heat embossed in white and the tree foliage is heat embossed with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder - just to give a subtle bit of bling to the card.

From there I just sponged on the colours taking care to keep the darker colours to the outside edges of the card. 

I distressed the card edges and wrapped some of the Sale A Bration free product - from the new March brochure - around the lower half. This is the Blackberry Bliss Thick Bakers Twine - Love it!

 

The card looks different depending on your colour choices and you can easily change these to Autumn or Summer colours to make brighter cards

Sponging gives lovely subtle colour changes - you just need to be a little careful when using dark inks. Buff over the top of the embossed images to remove any excess ink from those surfaces.

The beautiful embossed pattern of Irresistibly Yours (#138635) is so elegant, and the box is made in just a couple of minutes using the Gift Box Punch Board (#135863). I've tied a little White Jute Ribbon (#137904) together to form a base for a flower made using the scallop circle punch.

I mentioned earlier the Irresistibly Yours paper was very versatile. You can colour it in a number of ways too. It works beautifully with Blendabilities, watercolour, spritzing and inking with a sponge or dauber. Using these methods will bring out the pattern as it colours the background and leaves the pattern white. Don't forget to buff the embossed area with a tissue to ensure it shows up beautifully.

Stampin' Up! Sale A Bration - A Happy Thing

A Happy Thing stamp set (139131) is just one of the free offerings in the 2015 Sale A Bration catalogue by Stampin' Up! ... and it is indeed a happy thing. 

At first glance this stamp set shouts out to be coloured with Blendabilities, and that is exactly what I did with it. I also had a class on flip cards, using the Stampin' Up! Circle Card Framelit (#133480) so combining the 2 criteria, I came up with this sample.

It is such a happy card, and the lovely colours and patterns in the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper (#137784) match beautifully. You'll find these gorgeous papers in the Occasions Catalogue (p. 19) plus you'll see lots of ideas of how to use these papers. 

Notice how the card is held together with a belly band made from Melon Mambo card stock with some adhesive lace on it? You can see a video on You tube that shows details of how to use these framelits to create a card with extra length. 

This photo shows the opening mechanism of the card. Simply slip the belly band off and open up - the circle will then flip to reveal the greeting on the other side.

Hexagon Framelit Birthday Card

Today I have a very quick post on a birthday card I made for one of my sons-in-law for his birthday this year. It always sneaks up on me, and I am hopeless at remembering what day it is, let alone the date, so I needed to make this one quickly.

Can you see how I used part of the "Good As Gold" card kit that comes a a free Sale-a-Bration gift? It is a note card size so I just cut it in half and matted it onto a regular card base, picking out the Bermuda Bay colouring. 

Next I overlaid the Hexagon Framelit cut out then a couple of punched circles.

I used the Build A Cupcake punch for the cake, and one of the pre-stamped tags and strips that come with the Good As Gold card kit. Layer them all together , add the xoxo and the card is finished!

Baby Card Using Stampin Up In Colors

I always enjoy the freedom of water colouring and adore the combination with stamping. All the artwork is done and I just get to have loads of colour fun. 

For this month's stamp a stack we did this baby card and a birthday card. (3 of each) 

We all love playing with new craft products and the enjoyment is twofold when some of those products are free.

I've used the very cute stamp set "Baby We've Grown" that you can find in the new Occassions Catalogue, added some light water colouring to the images and matted them on Pistachio Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe card that has been cut using framelits from the Circles Collection and the Starburst Framelit Collection (Occasions Catalogue)

The detail shows how free you can be with water colour. It really does not have to stay within the lines, and can be applied quickly and easily with an Aqua Painter brush and your classic inks. Because the ink is somewhat transparent you will notice the colours neutralise one another when they overlap.

Best of Sale-a-Bration Stamp Set

Have you seen the Best of 25 Years series of Stamp Sets from Stampin' Up!? It's a wonderful idea to commemorate 25 years in business and I predict these stamp sets will become collectors pieces.

One of the things I love is that the images are different in size to the original images and there is one new stamp in each set. 

To celebrate Sale-a-Bration, I brought out my "Best of Sale-a-Bration" set and used my favourite image as a basis for colouring. I thought this image would be wonderful on note cards, so stamped quite a few of them using Early Espresso Ink. My choice and combinations of colours create a variety of pretty flowers that will work on many cards

Most of these stamped images have not yet been made into cards, but will be very shortly. I used a water colour technique with classic ink and an Aqua Painter. The water blends the stamped ink a little too and allows for layering of colours. Just remember to always start with your lightest colour!

Coastal Cabana mat picks up the colours in the petals.

Pink Pirouette and Early Espresso are a lovely combination and I knew the exact person I wanted to send this to today, so I added an embossed background using my Free Sale-a-Bration embossing folder "Decorative Dots", added a tiny linen thread bow and popped it in the post.

Feeling Sentimental Images from Stampin' Up!

When I first saw the images from Stampin' Up's! Feeling Sentimental Sale-a-bration stamp set, it brought back memories of my childhood when we had to go down to the corner and the red telephone box if we wanted to make a phone call. I grew up in a household with no phone! That is almost unimaginable these days, and to this day I do not really like using the 'phone.

I think these images are great and the style evokes somewhat of a "yesteryear feeling".

As I mentioned it is a Sale-A-Bration stamp set and therefore is exclusive and FREE to customers who order $100.00 or more of Stampin' Up! product. 

I used  the Emboss Resist technique for the basis of the card, with a little sponging and over stamping, and then decided to create some more interest by making another panel using the DSP, a little sponging and Pink Card stock. 

Linen Thread by Stampin' Up! is really suited to the vintage look and of course the Antique Brads make a nice statement as an embellishment.

Here is the completed card.

It is mounted onto a white card base and you'll notice the slight overlapping of shapes that don't stay within the boundaries of the card  base. I like to go "off the page" - somehow it gives me more freedom and there really is no reason to stay within the confines of a square or rectangle.

Sensational Sale-A-Bration Stamp Sets

 


I've had a great day today because, after transferring goods from my old fridge to my new fridge (at last! - that fridge was 37 years old), I was finally able to sit down in my craft room and play with some of my new Sale-A-Bration Stamp sets.

I've chosen to show you one card that I have tried to keep clean and simple. That was a bit hard considering I've been doing lots of Vintage lately.  I stuck to lots of different blues, using both Stampin' Write Markers and papers from Stampin' Up!® and I must thank Rebecca Ware, a fellow SU demonstrator, for her inspiration with this card.

 I've used one of the stamps from the FREE  set "Punch Bunch", and have simply coloured part of one stamp with my markers, using Marina Mist, Pacific Point and Night of Navy.

I added a thin strip from  the Blueberry Crisp DSP,  trimmed the base of the image by punching with the Pinking Hearts Border Punch (available in the Stampin Up Summer Mini Catalogue), mounted it all onto Night of Navy card, tied Night of Navy Taffeta 1 cm Ribbon and White 3.2mm Taffeta ribbon and adhered the lot to some Marina Mist card.

You can see some of the detail that can be achieved using the markers - they are fabulous aren't they?
